I have been blogging for about a year now and I realize that it is not for me. I find that I labour over the text, moving things around, loading pictures all of which seems to come easy for most people. So I have made a Face Book page called "All the Pretty Pieces" . I invite you to look for me and "like" my page. Once you have done so you can invite your quilty friends to "like" me from your FB profile by clicking on the "invite friends" spot on the right hand side of your page. Here is the profile picture I used, so look for that when you are searching.<br />

Sorry if this excludes anyone who has been following my blog. I will "blog" once in awhile but will use my FB page regularly. I will continue to follow my favorite blogs, so you will be hearing from me. Your blogs are such a big part of my quilting journey, how I am inspired and feel apart of that bigger community. Thanks to those who have followed my blog. I have so appreciated your encouragement!</div>

<a href="http://naptimequilter.blogspot.ca/2013/06/slabs-for.html">Chery</a>l, one of the authors of the book, posted a blog requesting "slabs" to make into quilts for the Calgary flood victims. The deadline for sending her the slab blocks is July 30th. </div>

Especially in quilts, of course. I found the patterns for them a little intimidating. Angles or templates. Until I bought one of Kim Brackett's books called "Scrap-Basket Surprises". She has an amazingly simple way of doing pinwheels. The blocks are 6" and there is lots of fabric from "Connecting Threads".<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO3R-Dnc8k0sSzIz3G0rm3oQjKXxs5XBB2jxVN0fVdNc-WSPAoSm9mwzUfojtBK5chWbWaPxXKAGDVJVG2AHeFyzNpofjrnscijdDCl65t9zG9MPya3eGm9Yo0hv1mBoLZeq09BL4YQU0/s1600/20130619_205608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO3R-Dnc8k0sSzIz3G0rm3oQjKXxs5XBB2jxVN0fVdNc-WSPAoSm9mwzUfojtBK5chWbWaPxXKAGDVJVG2AHeFyzNpofjrnscijdDCl65t9zG9MPya3eGm9Yo0hv1mBoLZeq09BL4YQU0/s320/20130619_205608.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A close up of the border quilting and the back. I used several different quilt designs for the backgrounds of the pinwheels. I also pressed the seam toward the pinwheel fabric so they pop very nicely when the background is quilted.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCw34_mHvBzasabqI_RARqbrfStGdmJLXicVE1nZV96toq57GW_FN50y-vc7gPaIw6gFUFC4M1nN_c-Dt4levvQPCmh8glOKd52W2l5nCn0TGetfkkl10rshUIq6S02t2BE_TlMEU70oU/s1600/20130621_071138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCw34_mHvBzasabqI_RARqbrfStGdmJLXicVE1nZV96toq57GW_FN50y-vc7gPaIw6gFUFC4M1nN_c-Dt4levvQPCmh8glOKd52W2l5nCn0TGetfkkl10rshUIq6S02t2BE_TlMEU70oU/s320/20130621_071138.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made this quilt for me. To hang in my sewing space, which I painted this spring. The first coat I painted was bright and I liked it but I ended up toning it down a bit. You know how that goes! So my DDIL suggested to add color with accessories. I think this little quilt does the job perfectly! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
It was hard to settle to anything after the wedding but I do have a couple of things to share. Have also been gardening when ever weather permits.<br />
<br />
I love cathedral windows. I found a good tutorial on <a href="http://gogokim.blogspot.ca/2011/12/cathedral-window-pin-cushion-tutorial.html">Kim's blog</a>. Such a good idea to make something small if you want to try something new, rather than make plans for a huge quilt. I found them a little tricky to make, so now know I would not make a big quilt, but do love the pin cushion. I have made a couple. Great little gift!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
This little wall hanging I made for friends of mine before the wedding. That is how I see them, as lights. Beacons for those around them. Their friends and family. Children and grandchildren (which, as it so happens we share). I did a bit of trapunto on the buildings and boats. Hard to really see.<br />

<br />
<br />
First time to try HST. They are a lot of fun. I did a bit of research on how other people do them. Lots of instructions out there. I liked the idea of cutting the squares an inch bigger than the finished block, rather than just 7/8" bigger. Then trim to size.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBM3cXCFYfeJtE51qH5p5O0Fs2NicWjAYwLwZzYCA28kHxX5a21nz18F-FcMFgA_bzXPsVSbifp832FIUTjWQ_NhU78nOup0qr-_OAnGSwNMWNZ3NJ94NVycSY2AxMeg_CvGWj9s47-KU/s1600/20130528_122203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBM3cXCFYfeJtE51qH5p5O0Fs2NicWjAYwLwZzYCA28kHxX5a21nz18F-FcMFgA_bzXPsVSbifp832FIUTjWQ_NhU78nOup0qr-_OAnGSwNMWNZ3NJ94NVycSY2AxMeg_CvGWj9s47-KU/s320/20130528_122203.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
Last but not least, a finish. Had the top made for a while, so it was a matter of getting it quilted. My rendition of one of the <a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/2011/09/30/thread-talk-from-my-sewing-machine-25/">Ivory Spring</a> designs. Pattern inspired by Atkins Designs called, Yellow Brick Road.<br />

I gave it to her last week so can post pictures. It is in purple and greens. It the Atkinson design Yellow Brick Road. I have used this pattern several times. It is fun to do and uses FQ. Uses the whole entire FQ which I like. A couple of things I wanted to point out. The q-design is a longarm rendition of <a href="http://www.patsythompsondesigns.com/blog/">Patsy Thompson's</a> "plumes". She has some great q-design that I have done on my domestic machine, so want to learn them on the longarm.<br />

<br />
The next photo shows a q-design that I learned from watching <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/jamiewallenchannel">Jamie Wallen's</a> youtube videos. His work is stellar and worth having a look. He has a web site as well. Gives lots of tips and has an online store.This particular design he marks out. I wanted to try marking to see what the process was like. To see if it would be an option for me. It is a lot of extra work. I really like the free motion better, I think. But if there was something specific I wanted to do I would use a marked design again. This quilt was also the first one that I quilted the top border, then center of the quilt and bottom border. Then took the quilt off of the rails and turned it, put it back on to do the two side borders. It was a bit time consuming but not as scary as I thought it would be. I would do that again for sure if the occasion presented itself.<br />

Time flies when you are having fun, or busy or both!<br />
<br />
I first want to share the addition to my sewing space. I posted pics on Facebook a while ago but haven't blogged about yet. It is a sewing surface that goes the entire width of my sewing room. WITH LOTS OF DRAWERS! Two sewing stations. If you are wondering if that is a bottle of wine you are right. We had a little celebration on its completion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr6ayF3ZYHqnlZyzYZPrSvGASTSSuAbWNv6tRqhjzsnuZV298nR36eaW99_0e1TPBUbZUpWM1T7g5XFi2WAs4WTUhzikyAe6d17udKK3kIpG6b9CpQaQ_h0Uq_bY_lcDtqdlYb6tU0k2E/s1600/20130114_203522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr6ayF3ZYHqnlZyzYZPrSvGASTSSuAbWNv6tRqhjzsnuZV298nR36eaW99_0e1TPBUbZUpWM1T7g5XFi2WAs4WTUhzikyAe6d17udKK3kIpG6b9CpQaQ_h0Uq_bY_lcDtqdlYb6tU0k2E/s320/20130114_203522.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My Dad made this for me. He has been a a carpenter most of his adult life. He does everything with such exactness. He was able to make a hole in the top that fit my plexi glass table exactly, so now it is level with the sewing surface of the new bench. He is 81 years young! So great for putting bindings on larger quilts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It was so fun to do. I love Edyta's patterns.<br />
<br />
A shot of Janine opening her gifts at the shower. 26 more days before the wedding. It is hard to focus on much else. We are all getting excited. Family coming from US, and western Can. to add to the anticipation of the event.<br />

I have completed two quilts since my longarm has been fixed. Will post pics next blog, probably with a wedding picture or two!<br />
<br />
I trust everyone had a great Easter. He has risen indeed! Spring to follow soon I hope.<br />

Work in progress gives a better feeling of moving forward. Life is like that, a work in progress!<br />
<br />
Two finishes to share. Both are Mystery Quilts, which I total enjoyed. Mystery Quilts can be a stretch. Not knowing anything about the pattern except the pile of pieces cut in various colours sizes and shapes. Yikes. Sent my OCD...ness running for cover. If you haven't ever participated in one, they are fun.<br />
<br />
Here is the first one. It is from 2009. Don't even remember the time line, but this one sat mainly because I had no idea how to quilt it. I have blogged about it before. Even asked for advice. Thanks to those who replied. I combed books and mags. I got out my disappearing pencil and did some designs on the blocks and spaces. Nothing seemed to be "just right". It wasn't until I had it loaded on the longarm with my hands on the handles did I know what I was going to quilt. Even at that moment I didn't have a plan, just started quilting. I am pleased with the result but it was hard on my brain:)<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The second one is the 2012 Mystery quilt. It is the largest quilt I have done, I think. Needless to say I was thankful for the longarm! That design is in the entire center of the quilt. I did it free motion so don't look too close. It was so fun to do. The circles aren't perfect but when it is on the bed you can't really tell. The print is Dandelion Girl by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda.<br />

This pattern just makes me happy! I was trying to be strategic about the block placement. Then I got to thinking it was a bit like life. You never know what life will throw at you. So am really tempted to, pretty much, pick up a block and use it. Turning the blocks to make the trip pattern and that is it. Yikes. It is a bit scary for me to do it that way. I made 64 blocks so the quilt will be 96x96. I want to practice a new design by Angela Walters. The quilting will not be too noticeable so that is perfect.<br />

Also finished the last quilt that is going to Thailand. It is the Yellow brick road pattern, which is fun to do and fat quarter friendly. Most of the fabrics came from Connecting Threads. My daughter made the top and I quilted it.<br />

Most quilters are well on their way to new projects and tackling the WIP pile as part of New Years resolutions. Dreaming of BOM patterns and considering what classes to take. All the things that quilters do in Jan. because it gives us a new "start" so to speak.<br />
<br />
I have had a delightful distraction, so have just started letting my brain go to quilty things. Our daughter got engaged over Christmas! We are so thrilled and excited. Her future husband is an amazing young man and we are happy to have him join our family. The wedding date is set for April 27, 2013. We have been planning, making lists and dress shopping. What fun.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAU4CN6BA5hyphenhyphen7qyPODAg96kA2PSS2Lh5eQv4AHpJfvuEDrq6sAPYMo2-4TQPXhEllb7KrrNw-z6Jm-RugBLoXHbu0a84aDb6sHFYO0Rtad6QeDqiiBLfUIz7vsY9Q1CYsEfiDxl9gKM0w/s1600/alanjanine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAU4CN6BA5hyphenhyphen7qyPODAg96kA2PSS2Lh5eQv4AHpJfvuEDrq6sAPYMo2-4TQPXhEllb7KrrNw-z6Jm-RugBLoXHbu0a84aDb6sHFYO0Rtad6QeDqiiBLfUIz7vsY9Q1CYsEfiDxl9gKM0w/s320/alanjanine.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
<br />
<br />
I also want to share this Christmas gift I received. It was from my daughter in law and son. It is special for two reasons. One, of course is because it came from them. My son made the frame. Second, the gift of something quilted is a gift that quilters don't often receive. I love gifts of quilted things. As quilters we tend to most often give gifts of quilting to people who don't quilt. That has been my experience anyway. Amazing eh! Thanks to you both!<br />

I think one of my New Years resolutions should be to post more often. Smaller posts, that is the answer. I guess I am some what of a haphazard blogger. It just is not something I think about until I have a few things to share. It kind of catches up with me. Anyway will en devour to catch up.<br />
<br />
First, I wanted to share about the new threads I ordered from Connecting Threads. As some of you know I recently started long arm quilting. So was trying out different threads. The polyester cones<br />
work so well. Hardly any breakage at all. It is a fine thread which is the look that I like.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMZW7Twj5KWNgfW5BkeYB5uh8FSACb4ho9qIOjXTv2qK47iMYsw2pblcTSEDWXL5YM3ExLX6wcv0sTW7NAFZMED22Cp92apeBVXxICjEquCLCD6QIFtRG450eiPflj17Sz3iE7KbKJ0PY/s1600/threads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="display: inline !important; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMZW7Twj5KWNgfW5BkeYB5uh8FSACb4ho9qIOjXTv2qK47iMYsw2pblcTSEDWXL5YM3ExLX6wcv0sTW7NAFZMED22Cp92apeBVXxICjEquCLCD6QIFtRG450eiPflj17Sz3iE7KbKJ0PY/s320/threads.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next, finished this little quilt last week. It was a top that someone gave me. It is a scrappy one to say the least. There is every thing in there. Even fabric with tractors! I felt it deserved to be quilted. The same amount of work goes into a quilt top no mater what fabric is used. It was a good one for practicing on. I think it will make a great summer table topper, despite the odd Christmas fabric :) Pics coming up. See if you can see the tractors. Quilt design is Angela Walter's.<br />

The first and only mug rug I have made. It took a bit of time to make. Sorry it is side ways ;( I just know there is a way to fix that!<br />

Next a Christmas table topper. The hexies are about the size of a sandwich plate. Had a bit of trouble with the binding so went on line. Found a great tutorial. <a href="http://ankastreasures.wordpress.com/2011/01/03/binding-odd-angles/">Here</a>. Heather has a tutorial for the inner angle and the outer angle of hexies.<br />

<br />
<br />
And last but not least, my niece Annie Rose at the long arm machine. After a little verbal instruction and two minutes practice on the side where the batting is,away she went. She just stepped up to the handles and pressed the start button. No fear or hesitation. The quilt that she is quilting on is her own design. She is a very talented young woman in so many areas. What a privilege to share the love of quilting with her.<br />

Everyone is no doubt in the midst of preparing for Christmas. Remember the real reason for the season is the birth of our Saviour.<br />

To say the least it is lots of fun and I still can't believe I own one. It is challenging to not be on it all of the time.<br />
<br />
This quilt I did with swirls, which are my favorite to do so far. You can see that they need to be a bit more uniform but that will come.<br />

<br />
<br />
This next quilt was pieced by a friend of mine. The top was given to me as a gift! I have to say that it is my all time favorite style. So scrappy and the pieces are 1 3/8", finished. It is big enough, to more than cover a queen sized bed. Because of all of the small pieces and moderately dense quilting it is heavy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKpg_fUGVKQIka5iproRS23D2reBuApx1nX9_MiIjgVb-XsSgWgg58pqHsF2yOJTey3ep-4RYti4Zhzy0cJys6K4ntW-_AUoOZyINS61ffAfm7vHR4V8e_FR0EvZFCQH23LIIhbvZ55bs/s1600/IMG_3020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKpg_fUGVKQIka5iproRS23D2reBuApx1nX9_MiIjgVb-XsSgWgg58pqHsF2yOJTey3ep-4RYti4Zhzy0cJys6K4ntW-_AUoOZyINS61ffAfm7vHR4V8e_FR0EvZFCQH23LIIhbvZ55bs/s320/IMG_3020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There are two different blocks. Pic below shows the two designs. The design in the little nine patch block was a flower of sorts and the strip block had back and forth quilting in the first and third strip.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFdrva3v-FedIOzhJ-pWeg-gALr60et30jJoFCVNN17k0u_wlqkmSK1nBflcnA4nqPlD4uuFiykwJzfTQjVlbK0VyMbX9ajh7xHR7jRfm_iPgGtkORJhOCbcJP_jrfDtHfIRSFUs0IZUo/s1600/IMG_3016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFdrva3v-FedIOzhJ-pWeg-gALr60et30jJoFCVNN17k0u_wlqkmSK1nBflcnA4nqPlD4uuFiykwJzfTQjVlbK0VyMbX9ajh7xHR7jRfm_iPgGtkORJhOCbcJP_jrfDtHfIRSFUs0IZUo/s320/IMG_3016.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There was also two borders. First border was two squares wide, so I did a crosshatch of sorts. A bit wobbly but it is such a fun design to do, so I want to get better at it. The other border was made of the strip squares so it made a piano key border. I quilted back and forth on every other strip, the same as I did the blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRC0w_nZOFGHEb5utMxTdRmBF0jeoG0vXavXLUChStDEVZqY_HcyVh2cf0G-KruOJ52FRz1UcbKessjK1oUHfUi_TnA3gXJ7qI0aVpcQI54puUIBcbPcrmm2zgfxbOYCGGDF9rz0bZ5Q/s1600/IMG_3017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRC0w_nZOFGHEb5utMxTdRmBF0jeoG0vXavXLUChStDEVZqY_HcyVh2cf0G-KruOJ52FRz1UcbKessjK1oUHfUi_TnA3gXJ7qI0aVpcQI54puUIBcbPcrmm2zgfxbOYCGGDF9rz0bZ5Q/s320/IMG_3017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These last two pictures are for Esther over at <a href="http://threadsonthefloor.blogspot.ca/2012/11/slow-progress.html">Threads on the floor</a>. We discovered from blogging back and forth, we were making the same quilt, "Celtic Knot". Check hers out. Her color ways are different from mine. It has 2,025, 2 1/2 " squares. My top needs borders and it is ready to quilt. It will probably be after Christmas. Not sure how I will quilt it yet.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr1GsAVnhX-WD4MFMKQVCQe-u3uWorBCuDBwzQomOluEXrz_u51THByKlShY_buZvFHP9LlL0llwUNKSR3NHu2RrDxbxaTRqYwTjkbqrnCEbSdqryJiZvmyBeiHvGHKqQj50rYsyBj0-k/s1600/IMG_3021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr1GsAVnhX-WD4MFMKQVCQe-u3uWorBCuDBwzQomOluEXrz_u51THByKlShY_buZvFHP9LlL0llwUNKSR3NHu2RrDxbxaTRqYwTjkbqrnCEbSdqryJiZvmyBeiHvGHKqQj50rYsyBj0-k/s320/IMG_3021.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see, it is scrappy!<br />
<br />

<br />
Thanks for checking in. <br />

It is my sister Dianne's turn this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhyphenhyphenapFkf3W135m8-3vFDgp9pezBizCVXESaiY5VPxtHZaT_82MZxdMl8YpJ7kQofL6hf74g_eWsrgZsD9VU82FNuH_TVwKM3aUwcYz7vkVkqWXBIGDWWGX4690GpG2WxPHezLVLbfpXBo/s1600/IMG_2998.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhyphenhyphenapFkf3W135m8-3vFDgp9pezBizCVXESaiY5VPxtHZaT_82MZxdMl8YpJ7kQofL6hf74g_eWsrgZsD9VU82FNuH_TVwKM3aUwcYz7vkVkqWXBIGDWWGX4690GpG2WxPHezLVLbfpXBo/s320/IMG_2998.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I was thinking the same thing, she sure doesn't look fifty. She is beautiful inside and out! She loves those around her, freely and with all that she is. Her life is a testimony to the love that is given to us by God. Having her apart of my everyday life is such a blessing!<br />
<br />
This is the little quilty I made for her birthday. It reminded me of her giving spirit. I called it " A Mother's Heart"<br />

It is a from Mckenna Ryan's "Bella Garden". So fun to make.<br />
<br />
The long arm is buzzing along nicely. I try and spend a bit of time on it every day. Pics soon!<br />

I never dreamed it would be so much fun. There is a definite learning curve though and I am trying to be patient.<br />
<br />
This quilt was a good one to start on I think. The strips gave me the idea to practice a different design the width of every three or four strips. Here are couple of the designs I tried.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF_AAf9XbHiN2_a0mOStVZNjucG_YcnU6ioudVvDmaUsuN50RHLVdTZcQWLAoGV4sShtNjSRaovsn6yI4H_9RfYvbtcrS_0EyXuYvGdbjRxAsMsdh_KuAul8TFO2N10kkQBbCJ8Ow2SMU/s1600/L-A+design+%231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF_AAf9XbHiN2_a0mOStVZNjucG_YcnU6ioudVvDmaUsuN50RHLVdTZcQWLAoGV4sShtNjSRaovsn6yI4H_9RfYvbtcrS_0EyXuYvGdbjRxAsMsdh_KuAul8TFO2N10kkQBbCJ8Ow2SMU/s320/L-A+design+%231.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<br />
Next is a picture of a quilt I did for a friend. She made the top and I quilted it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXFr2qNL9SslSPCLd9T12g9jcrD7HCPZo9VCOXH_YGX_bETQDwBw8CmUinT1EJY9oq0N5Yure0Lh6ziIUvcK9CVgUDQHldHaKn2qCFzZsoV3NlM8aqIZOXzA0IUX7q1jUbeapooy3o2DY/s1600/Han+Thai+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXFr2qNL9SslSPCLd9T12g9jcrD7HCPZo9VCOXH_YGX_bETQDwBw8CmUinT1EJY9oq0N5Yure0Lh6ziIUvcK9CVgUDQHldHaKn2qCFzZsoV3NlM8aqIZOXzA0IUX7q1jUbeapooy3o2DY/s320/Han+Thai+quilt.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The back, an all over design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9C4EXyIT6f5KaDShCeMQG6jWP0Qk1L3TuKbiNwaxChguSjQ-zEanIPDx-__7rky40P9kxNIUKVYzZ8kPwP_byHSn1w6HpWbbIuiEiQqv4s2f5heKthKGpLRWzG5Bz4zgBAcvRVjjsZAc/s1600/Hannah+Thai+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9C4EXyIT6f5KaDShCeMQG6jWP0Qk1L3TuKbiNwaxChguSjQ-zEanIPDx-__7rky40P9kxNIUKVYzZ8kPwP_byHSn1w6HpWbbIuiEiQqv4s2f5heKthKGpLRWzG5Bz4zgBAcvRVjjsZAc/s320/Hannah+Thai+quilt.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And last but not least a sneak peak.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Maybe you can guess:)<br />
<br />
But first I can not believe how long it has been since my last post. What a whirlwind of a summer and beginning of fall. Lots of stuff happened, both good and challenging. I want to share some of the good things!<br />
<br />
My Sister was home from Florida and my niece from NY that I had not seen for five years. We all had such fun. They rented a little cottage very close to our house. Ten days goes by super fast.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Sue7TlJZCBRa0f9MncTM0QyIbWD84-XFYRkG9B69s0J9XyuEX2QBrBxRsFaF_X70P1_CNWPbL56UMttah6QTduhZzKqS-QPmh1y3raV_ByKltsx03p1fVXrPS7JAEQSZJbGiSVYsxS0/s1600/R+family.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Sue7TlJZCBRa0f9MncTM0QyIbWD84-XFYRkG9B69s0J9XyuEX2QBrBxRsFaF_X70P1_CNWPbL56UMttah6QTduhZzKqS-QPmh1y3raV_ByKltsx03p1fVXrPS7JAEQSZJbGiSVYsxS0/s320/R+family.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then we had 80th B Day celebration for my dad. Had tons of food, family and friends old and new. Mum and dad!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRHEEzFYg2b2EFP18hga0Q9dTSzppm631NORv08ulzpXQOKUn7SdmLA0dQSgpTuGx_yT7S1ZWZ1KcwPNzag_JL14_wHRDGV8BcXFM23klJFs13z9GEDbCa-AAZVDmFFiuAYjD7br0wKag/s1600/G+and+G.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRHEEzFYg2b2EFP18hga0Q9dTSzppm631NORv08ulzpXQOKUn7SdmLA0dQSgpTuGx_yT7S1ZWZ1KcwPNzag_JL14_wHRDGV8BcXFM23klJFs13z9GEDbCa-AAZVDmFFiuAYjD7br0wKag/s320/G+and+G.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My amazing Dad and his four kids.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
In Sept one of my nephews got married to and amazing young woman. What beautiful ceremony.<br />

Next Phoenix Arizona for a week. It was like being on another planet. Scenery was so amazing!<br />
This was the view from our hotel room. First time we had ever traveled to a place like this.<br />
<br />

And then end of Sept into Oct, 3 weeks in Alberta, visiting the sweetest little family. Not bias at all. We had sooo much FUN! Walks and talks, reading and playing, holding and hugging. Basically I was given the privileged to do life with them. That is what I enjoy most of all. Thanks guys!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As far as quilting goes, I feel like I have lived vicariously through my favorite blogs. I believe blogging (for me anyway) has an ebb and flow just like life. I loved keeping in touch and seeing all of the projects that were accomplished over the summer. Good job!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well now to explain the title if you haven't already guessed. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words so.........</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This machine IS actually in my studio! Even as I look at this photo I am still amazed. I never dreamt in a million years that I would have a long arm sewing machine, but there it is. My sweet husband convinced me that now was the right time to get one. It is a Pfaff Precision 3. Hubby and I opened the box, went step by step until it was set up. Followed the DVDs and manual to the letter and before we knew it, it was ready to go. It is a dream to sew on it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was never a "jump in with both feet" kind of a person, but I did with this. I have a "real" quilt on the machine now, trying out different designs to get the feel of it. It definitely will take a lot of practice, but I am looking forward to the process.</div>

Glad to be back! Will be posting a bit more often I hope. At least now you know where I will be and what I am doing!</div>

It nicely describes this post.<br />
When I first started my blog it was mainly for the intent to document what was happening in the quilting part of my world. Well, it wasn't long before I discovered that it is hard for me to separate one part of my life from another. I do try for the most part, but this is the post that bubbled to the top when I sat down this morning.<br />
So much has gone on this past month or so. My daughter arrived home from Thailand. She was co -leader of YWAM Truro here in NS. Their out reach was in Thailand. It was a stretching time for all of us. That is her looking at the camera wearing the red dress. So good to have her back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKNGQhp81OgWMiwVtBTJm5tD5V3v4js98cq4-SoyQK-hPWJvH_WXbWCLdroIOmyLV7Yh_CII5SSNPTtkxme1vlBYrvcl3hJiuFnkttVPk7Occfv4GGCXt6JCljvKaimZrvnIp9o07ZKnU/s1600/jan+in+T.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKNGQhp81OgWMiwVtBTJm5tD5V3v4js98cq4-SoyQK-hPWJvH_WXbWCLdroIOmyLV7Yh_CII5SSNPTtkxme1vlBYrvcl3hJiuFnkttVPk7Occfv4GGCXt6JCljvKaimZrvnIp9o07ZKnU/s320/jan+in+T.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My Brother and his family has also returned from a year doing missions in the Phillipines. Their time there was both amazing and hard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM7obGlJWzXdPCXnQBQ-Zsdr4-VYXkl3NNdSt6xkX14XKnY0sf2lO-KudlCGHl4-iub2VgL3iVdG0Tdf_fn33CVDxXrCVPsJ1-CDurppUzhBRAhL32Ga3pFy9flurbhYzAYNjZWkgAkQ8/s1600/Carlson+fam+in+Ph.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM7obGlJWzXdPCXnQBQ-Zsdr4-VYXkl3NNdSt6xkX14XKnY0sf2lO-KudlCGHl4-iub2VgL3iVdG0Tdf_fn33CVDxXrCVPsJ1-CDurppUzhBRAhL32Ga3pFy9flurbhYzAYNjZWkgAkQ8/s1600/Carlson+fam+in+Ph.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We have had fun homecomings and food. Laughter, tears and hugs.<br />
<br />
When so much is going on, my quilting is usually of the "not too much thinking" type.<br />
I made some blocks for Margaret's Hope Chest.<br />
<br />

And delicious piecing! It is an on going nine patch scrappy quilt I have had on the go for awhile. Perfect to do when my mind and heart are in other places.</div>

It was exciting to say the least. I can't remember the last time I won anything. As you can see it is the book "Geared for Guys". It is signed by the author, Emily Herrick, of "Crazy Old Ladies".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnheVVrm-5To0x9Fkhvd0qPQe-sCSQ176Dlp19OV5LJtLLc-t4lulTWFrMZlsIJmY1dvESFaJgvKS7Zew0xrUr9UurlZy-UHfMWDeP-g4h3bWurRUYPdlrhJDbbXUqtqTDZ_vD4X8frzg/s1600/Book+winning.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnheVVrm-5To0x9Fkhvd0qPQe-sCSQ176Dlp19OV5LJtLLc-t4lulTWFrMZlsIJmY1dvESFaJgvKS7Zew0xrUr9UurlZy-UHfMWDeP-g4h3bWurRUYPdlrhJDbbXUqtqTDZ_vD4X8frzg/s320/Book+winning.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There are some amazing quilts in there. Here is the first one I want to do. It will be for a friend of the family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfeQckrQJjPZy6P5gqCsVW6VnRNBeIAE_HEDSnWyFAMHFcgzAYQWeYjX1_meoPpgGiZo7gyZI0bS8ts-A702pGA9G9Ddzn8mjPCnyYLHlZhWkUNSxC_GFWoK0qvP84XkT30liSV6bXYq4/s1600/new+book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfeQckrQJjPZy6P5gqCsVW6VnRNBeIAE_HEDSnWyFAMHFcgzAYQWeYjX1_meoPpgGiZo7gyZI0bS8ts-A702pGA9G9Ddzn8mjPCnyYLHlZhWkUNSxC_GFWoK0qvP84XkT30liSV6bXYq4/s320/new+book.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It is called "Switch Back". I will probably stick pretty close to these colours, which means I have to buy fabric. There is a huge fabric store about three hours drive from where I live. Will get there sometime this summer for sure.<br />
<br />
Thanking the people of "Crazy Old Ladies" for the chance to win!<br />
<br />
Watch out for today's blessings!Gramma Quilterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00117963096429818062noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5882146012949406696.post-2158867408964259712012-06-05T09:58:00.000-07:002012-06-05T09:58:40.861-07:00I am stumped!Ok, I need some ideas. I have had this quilt "sandwiched" for a long time. Every time I pick it up to quilt it, I don't!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggUWldygfnKA7URpsCWZBigapkMDYpxKsOtYbdMbX93mULqmu_DdXNyaAzinaGapnlbmXG-uTOI5FWYl4lj7mHDVolHG5iBn6ZxVy4Jnw0LROVOsKTb0aFSfQPHSM2-wTPFuYE632irQU/s1600/IMG-20120121-00028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggUWldygfnKA7URpsCWZBigapkMDYpxKsOtYbdMbX93mULqmu_DdXNyaAzinaGapnlbmXG-uTOI5FWYl4lj7mHDVolHG5iBn6ZxVy4Jnw0LROVOsKTb0aFSfQPHSM2-wTPFuYE632irQU/s320/IMG-20120121-00028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I do know that I don't want an all over design, but a design that features the block. Kind of a bad picture but you see the orange and yellow blocks come together to make a white four point star.<br />
<br />
For those who are not sure what my set up is; I sew on a Pfaff expression 4.0 which is a home machine with a larger than normal sewing space. If you are a long armer and you have a design that might work, please pass it along.<br />
<br />
How would you quilt this quilt?<br />
<br />
Watch out for today's blessing!<br />

Thank you <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2012/05/18/bloggers-quilt-festival-spring-2012/">Am</a>y! <img alt="Amy's creative side" src="http://amyscreativeside.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/BQF-Spring-2012-Button.gif" /><br />
<br />
Here is the quilt I chose to submit. It is called "Fred's Roses". I made it just this spring for a friend of mine who turned eighty. Her husband who has been gone for several years, always had amazing roses.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6_uZk_p7Q9k92KLISZWZyoVtKqHrMw2rPOGNyc8Aj93gfSGpIes750y_WgzKzls2IGKhSRQT_ZlptugOfeKe1H7dd9nDgIZe51ILflfa5qSVK6YDMYZXMZ5KS4BAFTxJrWgcRg1jLknI/s1600/IMG_2608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6_uZk_p7Q9k92KLISZWZyoVtKqHrMw2rPOGNyc8Aj93gfSGpIes750y_WgzKzls2IGKhSRQT_ZlptugOfeKe1H7dd9nDgIZe51ILflfa5qSVK6YDMYZXMZ5KS4BAFTxJrWgcRg1jLknI/s320/IMG_2608.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
It is a paper piecing design by Eileen Sullivan. Lots of small pieces, which I love. I also tried trapunto for the first time. I took the opportunity to try some different machine quilting which is another passion of mine.<br />

I wanted to use this design on a quilt that was ready to be quilted. It is Wendy's at <a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/2011/09/30/thread-talk-from-my-sewing-machine-25/">Ivoryspring</a>. She has lots to show you if you haven't visited her yet. Anyways, I was practicing this design by drawing it out on paper. It wasn't coming out like I wanted it to. The small piece of paper didn't allow me to get the feel of it. Can you guess what I did?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv-N4fu4G_L5xYL_ITbyZBvgbTcwbPGvZUKT2xr2AKalOwBMxhRrq3P1Aibc8Ci9IXYBq6lGdphAZzUrphFdSFfN2VDJrVIQXJmYu3STAu2G6skcd13aPoAujbI1Wt838Ni58i1Zm9paU/s1600/design+wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv-N4fu4G_L5xYL_ITbyZBvgbTcwbPGvZUKT2xr2AKalOwBMxhRrq3P1Aibc8Ci9IXYBq6lGdphAZzUrphFdSFfN2VDJrVIQXJmYu3STAu2G6skcd13aPoAujbI1Wt838Ni58i1Zm9paU/s320/design+wall.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I drew it on the wall! It was so freeing and it sure helped me get the feel of it and draw the design the size I wanted to do it on the quilt. I wasn't sure what Hubby would say, but he thought it "looked nice". It gave me the idea to maybe paint that wall with chalk board paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is what it looked like done on the quilt. What I liked about this design was the little swirly bits. I used them to "fill in" around the flowers. So if I was stuck in a weird place that a flower wouldn't fit, I did a swirl to get out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfCrgaeilhVT0mMoUsmXDKDNQzWJ6PtvWyHpdkzu0uI4mbvmwbqWghHtDBs0SwA6JdG_7NkU-8sp_GmbZaYFDkWhIqgPb3kJi5fIqYVRcaw7TSEv9E8I0RoHkWEqziAHcW9MvHD_NI474/s1600/Ivory+spring+flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfCrgaeilhVT0mMoUsmXDKDNQzWJ6PtvWyHpdkzu0uI4mbvmwbqWghHtDBs0SwA6JdG_7NkU-8sp_GmbZaYFDkWhIqgPb3kJi5fIqYVRcaw7TSEv9E8I0RoHkWEqziAHcW9MvHD_NI474/s320/Ivory+spring+flowers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see, it is a strip quilt. Don't seem to get tired of this pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been sewing strips to paper like you do for foundation piecing. Then you have to rip off all of the paper. Of which I have a pile in my living room as we speak, from the next one in progress. I have since discovered there is a ruler you can use! Did not know there was such a thing. I am getting one!</div>

Last week I bought a couple of stencils from Judi <a href="http://greenfairyquilts.blogspot.ca/">http://greenfairyquilts.blogspot.ca/</a> at Green Fairy quilts. She sells the stencils as PDF so you dont even have to wait for them to come in the mail. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a visit to Judi's blog. Her quilting is exquisite.<br />
<br />
This little quilty is just 10x10 ish. I wanted to try the design out before actually using it in a quilt. The method I used to mark the stencil you can find on <a href="http://colormequilty.blogspot.ca/2012/04/try-new-things-tnt-thursday-quilt.html">Pat's</a> blog. She follows SewCalGal's FMQ challenge. All info is on Pat's blog with links to the other blog. It worked very well.<br />
<br />
Micro stippling on the outside of the design and pebbles on the inside. It is amazing how much you can learn from one little piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"> I have a quilt top that has some big squares in it. I am always challenged by big open spaces. I think this design will work well.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am forever grateful to quilters who share their knowledge and experience. So exciting to try something new.</div>

I made it for a friend of mine who turned 80 last week. Fred was her husband's name and he always had amazing roses bushes. He passed away several years ago, so it was kind of a tribute to him as well .<br />
<br />

<br />
It was a paper piecing pattern by Eileen Sullivan. Her patterns are so fun to do. Fabric was bits and pieces of batiks. Paper still on the back.<br />

You cant really tell but that rose in the front is trapunto-ed. I did the roses and leaves in the front and the rose buds. It was the first time I had tried trapunto. Not sure if i really liked it but it does add a bit of dimension.<br />
<br />
Sun is shining but still a bit cold here to be outside gardening, so will sew for a bit today. Working on my swoon blocks and a mystery quilt from the online Quilt Mag.<br />
<br />
Watch out for today's blessings!<br />

I look forward to these little trips, just to have a break in the routine. To watch a little TV, read, nap, you know.<br />
<br />
View from my hotel. That strip of blue is of course, the ocean.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOCxWcKXHsqDubFQP9xZsHmSaknykQVyEHyrZ7x1XnjMQnSrvihG-DLG_gupyunIWwopmLIA0-TW7xQoXGmGI_7MRhhN5y4XIBh_ysgC-opR5XmKbNO_TOyY0hW7JE1I3L3UmnfBYyJOY/s1600/IMG_2681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOCxWcKXHsqDubFQP9xZsHmSaknykQVyEHyrZ7x1XnjMQnSrvihG-DLG_gupyunIWwopmLIA0-TW7xQoXGmGI_7MRhhN5y4XIBh_ysgC-opR5XmKbNO_TOyY0hW7JE1I3L3UmnfBYyJOY/s320/IMG_2681.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Next a picture of the hotel we stayed in. It was built in the early 1900's. It was a famous hotel in its day. It is still beautiful. It has been updated with all of the modern conveniences.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Of course I took some hexies to work on. I have them in various stages of development. Using scraps of course. <br />
These piles represent two strip quilts. Strip quilts are so fun. One pile has 99, 7 1/2", blocks and the other pile has 80, 8 1/2", blocks, which completes the numbe of blocks I need for each quilt. Instead of using muslin for the foundation, I used paper. It worked well and the resulting quilt will not be so heavy. I am going to link up with <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2012/03/finish-it-up-friday-week-19.html">Amanda</a> at Crazy Mums Quilts for her Finish it up Friday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbHpA_qQMVSdBvyXt1Z51tC7jA5wNh42DOm-7ydjGPhAM8gP1afXXqzOYVdDiWjMZrFk-wWV2TWMJuOG7HZZ4nsUdBSMo7bGcJOwJDPH1SATxu4yUkFhB_hyjoHpGQkx56dbmz9crzNK8/s1600/IMG_2595.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbHpA_qQMVSdBvyXt1Z51tC7jA5wNh42DOm-7ydjGPhAM8gP1afXXqzOYVdDiWjMZrFk-wWV2TWMJuOG7HZZ4nsUdBSMo7bGcJOwJDPH1SATxu4yUkFhB_hyjoHpGQkx56dbmz9crzNK8/s320/IMG_2595.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
The next "piece" is my first <i>Swoon </i>blocks. I was bit scared after doing the first one. As you see, because I picked a black back ground, it looks like a Halloween block even though it is pink and yellow. But then when I did the next one, I felt better. I love how the strips look. I was not careful to lay the strips a certain way so they would line up. Kind of like life, you never know what it will throw at you next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH6j_pjw3o4YDL281zWIT8smrHn-9uA0U5BXDr3pKQfxoorUBj7gGy0aOmQeiAcDA06uWQOd3NsP0DzGTuwpV4t7aPU26mE26yTfErqnddjdL2mYDKtje-v5lUt4qm5X1MMsv0aX4gqEU/s1600/IMG_2599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH6j_pjw3o4YDL281zWIT8smrHn-9uA0U5BXDr3pKQfxoorUBj7gGy0aOmQeiAcDA06uWQOd3NsP0DzGTuwpV4t7aPU26mE26yTfErqnddjdL2mYDKtje-v5lUt4qm5X1MMsv0aX4gqEU/s320/IMG_2599.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
And the last but not the least "bit". This book arrived in the mail just this morning!. I have hardly cracked the cover, because when I do, I wont be thinking about anything else. I did "peak" as I waited for the pictures to upload. So amazing and inspirational. This book is a must have for anyone wanting to expand their FMQ horizons. Check out<a href="http://dianegaudynski.blogspot.com/"> Diane's Gaudynski's</a> blog. Lots of tips there as well.<br />

I neglected to say that the applique design is not mine. I got it from a quilting magazine that I have looked for off and on all weekend, to no avail. The quilt top has been finished for awhile, so the quilt mag is not right at my finger tips. There a distinct possibility that I will not find it:(. I feel bad about that. I so appreciate all of the design, quilting process and believe that credit should be given where credit its due. It is hard work and I know that a person pours a bit of themselves into the things they create. I appreciate the quilting community for the willingness to freely share patterns, techniques etc. With out that, the quilting process would not be as rewarding and fun. I am still hoping I will find that mag! In the mean time, thank you, who ever you are, for sharing your design, that I thoroughly enjoyed doing!<br />
<br />
Thanks also for the kind comments about the quilting:) So encouraging!<br />
<br />

I am done with winter. Even though our winter here in NS was basically a good one, I am wanting it to be over. It is +14, and the sun is shining today so thought I would post pics of this little quilty I finished this week..<br />

Hand applique and machine quilting.<br />
I am thankful for people who so freely share their expertise on their blogs. Leah Day, whose link I have posted on my blog before and <a href="http://ivoryspring.wordpress.com/">Wendy </a>Sheppard. Her blog is worth a visit. She is published in many magazines. Her FMQ is amazing and her "Thread Talks" are a wealth of information.<br />
<br />
There is some newly purchased fabric in the washer as I type, to complete a couple of tops I have on the go. When one is completed, another one takes its place. That is the way it is supposed to be, right?!!!<br />
